What it all means...

Look...

There are people that need your help.

Yeah, there are a million causes, and ten that amount of people who may fit only one. But we have our cause...the rest will take care of themselves or not. We do what we do with one at a time.

But that' how we do it...individually.

One at a time.

Here's the facts and they are not laid before you to for my self-aggrandizement.

They are only the facts.

Since 2005, and until recently, one man has gathered, rebuilt and distributed computers to just short of 950 kids in one area. It's been tough a lot more than it's been easy. 900 and 40 some computers...

A drop in the bucket, yeah...

But all floods begin with one drop.

Now, imagine this sort of every effort in one out of 100 cities in the US or anywhere else.

Do the math. It is staggering.

I'm not here to preach...I just want to make sure that before the one out of 1000 of you even considers such a task.

You better have your heart in it.

All of your heart...your body and your mind because I have seen the results. I've seen ghetto kids come off the streets and step into Stellarium, Kstars, Tuxtype...

Kalgebra.

I've seen kids give up getting a gang tatoos on the back of their necks and going home to do their homework.

Somebody showed them that they were worth a handful of old hardware and a bit of compassion. Not all...but enough

Doors traditionally closed to them were smashed open.

With a handful of old hardware and a bit of compassion.

We had, what I consider to be, a fantastic success during the Linux Against Poverty event. Before one geek showed up at Union Park, we were donated over 90 computers in the 30 days before the event. Aside from my stumbling efforts, the event was planned and executed with brilliant results.

And oh yeah...one guy pretty much made that happen.

We only arrived that day with about 60 computers...not 90.

The rest had been fixed, loaded with Linux and given away in less than 30 days prior to the event.

Computers powered by the will of a global Community...computers powered by Linux.

All your heart...all of it. I am guessing that one out of a thousand to take this task on is generous...it is probably much less than that. If you are that one...

Someone is counting on you. You have no idea...the power of 1.

It's the base for all multiplication.
